Permanent is a practice-based research and grassroot project that aims to develop an embedded and permanently affordable mixed-use infrastructure in Brussels that combines cultural functions with housing and community facilities. By investigating anti-speculative understandings of ownership and looking into community-based legal and financial models proposed by the cooperative- and commons economy, Permanent wants to disrupt the status quo in which culture acts as a driver for gentrification and profit-driven development, and reclaim its symbolic capital to push for more solidary, more inclusive and more just cities.
